Steffen Sirries studied business administration at the RWTH Aachen University with a focus on business taxation and auditing, corporate strategies in competition (microeconomics) as well as energy and process engineering. As a PhD student he was employed as a research associate at the Department of Economics, at the chair Empirical Economic Research and Econometrics at the RWTH Aachen University and at the University of Bay-reuth. He taught several consecutive courses on empirical methods and quantification in economics. He also gained extensive independent teaching experience as an external lecturer with a specialization on quantitative and empirical methods at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, the FernUniversität in Hagen, and within the accredited masters programs at the Haus der Technik e.V.
His dissertation consists of essays on international trade and migration research with a structural and quantitative focus. After obtaining his PhD in economics at the University of Bayreuth in 2016, he joined the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg as a scientific adviser to politics and the public.
In 2018 Dr. Steffen Sirries joined the Lademann & Associates GmbH (L&A) - an economic consulting agency with a focus on competition economics - as a freelance economist and external advisor. He permanently joined the team of L&A in the summer of 2019. Today, he is equity Partner of L&A and - together with his partners - unites a strong team of professional economic consultants. Besides this entrepreneurial and consulting position he holds an Adjunct Professorship for Economics at the Kutaisi International University (since 2020). His activities in academia involve ongoing teaching services in different economic fields as well as academic research on competition economics and policy. Thus, he bridges the gap between economic cunsulting and academic work on an almost daily basis.
In addition to his extensive methodological and economic knowledge, Dr. Sirries builds on professional experience in the fields of cartels, the abusive exploitation of dominant positions, as well as antitrust discount agreements and merger proceedings. Cases he is currently involved include the German Sugar Cartel, a prominent TV-Commercial case wrt. to antitrust discounts, the European Trucks Cartel, the Ethylene Purchasing Cartel, the Google Shopping abuse of dominance Case within the digital-platform industry or the Metal Forging Cartel.
Steffen Sirries is member of the German association of economists (Verein für Socialpolitik e.V.), the European Economic Association (EEA), of the Competition Litigation Forum (c-l-f), the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht, the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE), of the Association of Competition Economics (ACE), and of the Georgian Economic Association. Regularly he attended and contributed to scientific as well as business and policy conferences.
